Geeta Iyengar

Dec 7 1944 - Dec 16 2018

Geetaji, as she is fondly addressed as, by her students across the world, passed away on Dec 16 2018. The eldest daughter of Guruji, she was an acclaimed yoga teacher in her own right, credited with advancing yoga for women’s health.

Her sudden demise was a shock to the entitre yoga community, coming barely two days after the conclusion of the celebration of Guruji’s 100-year centenary celebrations. She was the moving force behind the mammoth 10-day yogasana and pranayama program, in which more than 1,300 students from 53 countries participated. She gave everything she had, teaching tirelessly for five of those days: tough love, wisdom and soulful honesty.

As we come to terms with this loss, what we can do to honor Geetaji's life and her legacy is: practice.

Sadhana, the yogic art of doing. Recorded in Pune during our stay at the Institute in 2009.
